1946-1951 Hanya Holm & Broadway
1946-1947
After training as a scholoarship dance student with Hanya Holm in New York City, Tetley was asked to join Holm's dance company. Tetley had attended her summer dance course at Colorado College the summer of 1947.

In addition to dancing with Holm's company, Tetley worked as her assistant in the Broadway productions of "Ballet Ballads" (1948), "Kiss Me Kate" (1948), and "Out of this World" (1950).

1948
Tetley graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Science degree. During these early years in New York, Tetley received strong training in ballet studying under Helene Platova, Antony Tudor and Margaret Craske as well as at George Balanchine’s School of American Ballet. Tetley also performed in New York City Opera productions which had choreography by John Butler.
