Tips for Researching on Website
About The Collection Browsing Searching Questions
About the website:
This Digital Home for the Glen Tetley Legacy was created on the Omeka.net web-publishing platform. Omeka is widely used by Museum professionals, Librarians, Archivists, Students, and Educators because of its purpose and strengths of showcasing collections, exhibits, and research according to current archival and library standards.
The GTL Collection:
The Glen Tetley Legacy Archives has a wide variety of items in its collection. These include photographs, programs, production and costume designs, posters, artwork, personal items of Glen Tetley’s, and books. The collection has been undergoing a preservation and digitization project for the past few years initiated by funding from the Dance Heritage Coalition (now partners with Dance/USA). Items that have been digitized can be found on the website under “Browse Collections”.
Browsing the Collections
Each item from the archives has been placed into one of three “Collections” on the website. These include:
Life of Glen Tetley -- Photographs related to Glen Tetley personally including his childhood, early performances on stage and screen, and as director and choreographer for major international companies.
Glen Tetley Choreography Gallery -- Photographs of dance companies around the world performing Glen Tetley's choreography spanning from 1962 to 2018!
Memorabilia & Artifacts from the Archives -- Physical objects that help to tell the history and impact of Glen Tetley and the Glen Tetley Dance Company in the world of dance.
Because of Omeka’s educational and archival focus, the description and data related to each item is in the Dublin Core Metadata Element structure. Dublin Core provides a vocabulary structure that can be used for describing a wide range of resources by many types of businesses, libraries, museums, archives, and more.

Searching the Website
The GTL website uses an Advanced Search. The search box is located at the end of the menu bar on the left side of the screen.
To utilize the Advanced Search options, you must click the three dots to the left of the magnifying glass.
Keyword Search is similar to Google Search by returning results ordered by relevance. Searching on “Daphnis and Chloe” will prioritize records that contain the full string “Daphnis and Chloe”, but will also include records that contain the individual words “Daphnis” or “Chloe”.
Boolean Search is a type of search allowing users to combine keywords with operators (or modifiers) such as AND, NOT and OR to further produce more relevant results. For example, a Boolean search could be "hotel" AND "New York". This would limit the search results to only those documents containing the two keywords.
- Quotes: Use quotes to search for an exact phrase. Example: "Pierrot Lunaire"
- Parenthesis: Combine modifiers to create a more complex search. Example: Alice AND (Kain OR Harrington)
- AND: Include two search terms. Example Voluntaries AND Gemini
- OR: Broaden your search with multiple terms. Example: "Karen Kain" OR "Rex Harrington"
- NOT: Use to exclude a specific term. Example: Mikhail NOT Baryshnikov
Exact Match Search is a search to find the exact match of the words you have typed.
